Piecewise Word Problems:
I will be able to be able to write piecewise functions

Piecewise word problem example:
The admission rates at an amusement park are as follows:
Children 5 years old and under: Free
Children between 5 years and 12 years ,inclusive: $10
Children between 12 years and 18 years, inclusive: $25
                Adults: $35

To solve this this first thing I would do is to write down the ages. The ages will serve as the x because they change. So for the first I say 0 less or than equal to x less than or equal to 5, because you can not just say less than or equal to 5 because that would include negative numbers and no one's age is a negative number. So 0 would have to be the lowest number. For the second I  say 5 less than x less than or equal to 12. There is no need to say equal to 5 because the inequality before already includes 5. For the third I say 12 less than x less than or equal to 18. Same thing you don't need to say equal to 12 because the inequality before already includes it. For the final age range I say x greater 18 because adults count for any age greater than 18. The prices are easy they will be constant through out the age range for example any child from ages 5 through 12 will be charged 10 dollars it doesn't matter what age the are in that range they will be charged 10 dollars.

My solution set: 0    if 0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 5
10    if 5 less than x less than or equal to 12
25    if 12 less than x less than or equal to 18
                          35    if x is greater than 18

One thing that I had a little hard time grasping was adding 0 in the beginning of a solution set I would think it tells you anything less then the number so x less than number but that wasn't right because that would include negative numbers. I overcame that obstacle on my own I figured if the word problem could not possibly have negative numbers than 0 had to be included in the mix.

EQ- How do transformations of piecewise functions relate to transformations of other functions?
They are the same exact steps except for one thing piecewise functions can have multiple parts but they still all move the same direction.
